Easily Do Popcorn Ceiling Removal
63Many new homes are now built with flat ceilings. The days of the sprayed on popcorn ceilings has past. But, alas, many existing homes still have popcorn ceilings. What’s a present day do-it-yourself-er to do? Scrape that mess off, that’s what. It is time for you to take on that popcorn ceiling removal project you've been putting off. It’s really a pretty simple process if you utilize a small amount of patience.
Fill a spray bottle with lukewarm water. Gather your paint roller pan, scraper and spray bottle. Step up the ladder and get to scraping that popcorn ceiling.
Saturate a small area of the ceiling using the spray bottle.
Hold the paint roller pan under the wet area. Scrape the area and allow the texture to fall into the pan. Yes, some will miss, so you may consider covering the affected area with a tarp or old sheet.
Repeat the steps 1-2-and 3 until the entire ceiling has been scraped clean of the popcorn texture. Your new flat ceiling is now ready to prep for painting.
- Be sure to scrape the sprayed area while it is still wet. The job will go much easier.
- Allow any texture that misses the pan and tarp to dry before cleaning up with a vacuum cleaner.
- Keep pets and small children out of the area while you work.

Short, sweet and to the point! Thanks for sharing. I have popcorn ceilings in our condo and have been looking to get rid of it. I'll take your advice here and see what I come up with.
First I need to find the motivation, though!
